Projects in Knowledge has made a number of iPad/iPhone apps dedicated to providing continuing medical education (CME) to healthcare professionals. Among the many “living medical textbooks” is the one I highlight here as an example: the textbook for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The topic of this “living textbook” reflects a narrow focus that is common to each of the textbooks in the series. While certainly geared toward medical professionals, the text is written in such a way as to be comprehensible to even casual readers who are curious about the given topic. The app is divided into four chapters that cover topics like screening, histology, chemotherapy, and recent/emerging molecule-based treatment options. A quiz is given at the end of each chapter to track progress. Users must register to use the apps in this series, but registration is free.
