The American Society of Human Genetics recently issued guidelines for genetic testing in children and adolescents. There is general agreement that genetic testing should be done when results could have an immediate impact on health care decisions. However, the guidelines cite predictive testing for conditions that typically arise during adulthood as being problematic.
