Genomic Medicine Institute Buys Additional Gene Analysis Tools from Illumina

  • The Genomic Medicine Institute at Seoul National University College of Medicine purchased seven additional Genome AnalyzerIIx sequencing systems from Illumina. This expands the capacity of its recently established Asian Genome Center to 10 Illumina sequencing systems.

    The Genome Analyzer supports profiling and discovery of novel transcripts, creates a high-resolution genome-wide map of DNA-protein binding sites, and sequences entire human genomes.

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
