GEN 10 Awards and Grad Bash

  • This year GEN will hold its second annual “GEN 10 Awards and Grad Bash” at BIO. Based on the tremendous success of last year’s event, GEN will once again acknowledge the excellent research being carried out by ten young outstanding scientists. Each of the researchers will be singled out for a GEN 10 Award certificate and a $50 gift certificate. In addition, all ten winners will make a two-minute presentation about their work during the award ceremony.

After the presentations have been made all attendees are invited to mingle and discuss areas of mutual interest while enjoying complimentary servings of beer. The goal of the award ceremony and grad bash is not only to encourage the formation of new friendships but it’s also for young researchers to interact with colleagues on possible areas of future collaboration. We look forward to representatives from the bioindustry being present as well to see if any new product ideas jump out from our GEN 10 winners’ presentations. See you at our GEN 10 Awards and Grad Bash Event on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, from 3–5 PM at Theater Booth 2884!

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.

Do you agree that ecstasy should be studied for its potential therapeutic benefits?
