Antabuse May Help Revive Sight in People with Blinding Disorders

Studies by University of California, Berkeley, researchers suggest that a drug once widely used to help alcoholics abstain from drinking can also improve sight in mice with retinal degeneration, by inhibiting synthesis of retinoic acid. The scientists are planning to partner with ophthalmologists to conduct a clinical trial of disulfiram in patients with retinitis pigmentosa.
