SARS-CoV-2’s Spike Protein Can Enter the Brain in Mice

With many COVID-19 patients reporting neurological symptoms such as loss of taste and smell, headaches, confusion, and more, uncovering the link between the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the nervous system is of critical importance. Although it is unclear whether or not the virus can enter the brain, a new study found that the spike protein can cross the blood-brain barrier in mice, suggesting that brain entry is possible.
