Intestinally Produced HDL Cholesterol Protects Liver from Inflammation

Research by scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis found that a type of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) that is produced by the intestine plays a previously unknown role in protecting the liver from injury. The scientists suggest that raising levels of this HDL3 type of HDL, specifically in the intestine, may hold promise for protecting against liver disease.
