Insomnia Identified as Potential Risk Factor for Intracranial Aneurysms and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Insomnia may be a risk factor for intracranial aneurysms and aneurysm rupture, according to Karolinska Institutet-led research. The team turned to genome-wide association studies to gauge genetic associations to lifestyle and cardiometabolic risk factors, and links between such factors, intracranial aneurysm (IA), and aneurysm rupture. The results indicated that insomnia, as well as smoking and hypertension, was a factor for both IA and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
