Fat Droplets in Cells Rally Against Bacteria

Liquid droplets in mammalian cells aren’t just blobs of fat. They are cell-autonomous organelles that organize and use immune proteins to kill intracellular pathogens as well as central players in the local and systemic metabolic adaptation to infection. If lipid droplets could be exploited for development of new anti-infective agents, they could help address the problem of antibiotic resistance.
