Earthworms May Play Key Role in Reducing Antibiotic-Resistance Genes in Soil

The overuse of antibiotics in humans and animals has caused antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) to accumulate in soils, which could contribute to the rise in antibiotic-resistant infections. A new study suggests that earthworms have the potential to mitigate antibiotic-resistance genes in soils as a form of natural bioremediation.
