Physiological similarities between dogs and humans, and conserved genetics between some dog and human cancers, can allow pet dogs to serve as good models for studying new cancer drugs, according to some scientists. They believe the benefits of recruiting pet dogs with naturally occurring tumors surpass those that involve the use of murine clinical models in early cancer drug trials.
