Summary:

In this world of mouse-centric research laboratories, we may often forget that rats (and the researchers who study them) need love, too! So if you’re a rat scientist who feels like you’ve been on the outside looking in, fear not—there is finally an online goldmine dedicated to you. The Rat Genome Database (RGD) of the Human and Molecular Genetics Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin contains a number of genome tools, disease portals, and a phenotype database, in addition to gene and ontology information, genetic maps, and strain reports. (Are you impressed yet?) In its goal “to collect, consolidate, and integrate data generated from ongoing rat genetic and genomic research efforts and make the data widely available to the scientific community,” the RGD is doing a wonderful job, and it is a must-visit website for rat researchers.
