Site will provide radiopharmaceutical for PET imaging.
MDS Nordion is opening a facility in Fleurus, Belgium for the production of Glucotrace a radiopharmaceutical used in PET imaging. The new facility will provide Glucotrace for hospitals in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands.
“Our investment in this facility further demonstrates our commitment to address the growing demand for PET diagnostic imaging in targeted European regions, and provides the medical community greater service for their future patient care,” says Steve West, the president of MDS Nordion.
The company says that due to projected increasing demand in Europe for PET, the new production facility will have three daily production runs and a customer service team available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
On May 19, MDS Nordion announced that a heavy water leak at the reactor of its primary supplier would likely result in a significant shortage of medical radioisotopes worldwide.
