In the Service of Science

ATR was founded in 1980 as an instrument repair and service company primarily for The National Institutes of Health, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Maryland. Customers would rely on ATR’s expertise when selecting new equipment so moving into equipment sales was a natural extension of our company. Today ATR operations include: sales, repairs, installation, preventive maintenance, custom manufacturing, product manufacturing, and technical evaluation.

Even with ATR’s success selling top-of-the line equipment the company has never lost its focus on service. Our customers are our primary assets, and we work tirelessly to ensure their satisfaction. ATR makes sales based on personal and lasting relationships. When a customer needs on-site training, an ATR service technician will be there—and most installations are free of charge. When a customer needs a tailored configuration for innovative research, ATR has engineers on site to work through a custom-fit design based on specific needs.

Markets Served

Over the years ATR has successfully serviced the local areas of Maryland, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Virginia with personal contact from both sales representatives and service technicians. Recently, ATR extended service to the Boston and San Francisco Bay areas.

ATR has established and maintained an excellent reputation among the scientific community and is well established in the government market. Our local customer base has well over 5,000 persons. BPAs have been set-up with the NIH, FDA, and USDA for direct purchasing. In addition, ATR is familiar with procurement for NIH, FDA, USDA, EPA, CDC, the Army, the Navy, USAMRIID, NIST, and other government agencies. ATR sells products to the NIH self service store and has successfully set up, negotiated, and held GSA contracts. Government customers are comfortable with and trusting of ATR’s knowledgeable staff.

ATR currently offers products from the following manufacturers:

Infors HT—ATR is the sole U.S. distributor for Infors; however ATR manufactures the Multitron II stackable shaker incubator on site. In addition, ATR sells the full line of Infors shakers and fermenters.

CELLution Biotech—The CELL-tainer single-use bioreactor system combines a revolutionary two-dimensional motion with accurate, low shear mixing and high mass transfer rates for mammalian, insect, and microbial culture.

Sigma Centrifuges—ATR is the sole U.S. distributor for this line of high-quality, high-speed, and universal centrifuges.

Stovall Life Sciences—ATR is a local/regional distributor for the popular line including the Belly Dancer and Belly Button.

Elmi—ATR imports this “cute” line of vortexing benchtop centrifuges and mini shakers from Latvia.

Currently ATR has 27 full-time employees. Four are dedicated to outside sales; two at the Maryland office and one each in Boston and San Francisco. All have scientific backgrounds and have worked in a laboratory. ATR also has five service technicians who visit customers every day. Our office personnel are very familiar with our products and are happy to help with any customer inquiries. We have three people dedicated to ordering, processing, and shipping. In addition to our office team, ATR has a full service machine shop with CNC equipment, fabrication, and welding. The machine shop manufactures the Infors line of stackable shakers as well as ATR products.
