Innate immune-mediated oxidative injury is a proposed driver of the neurodegeneration and demyelination characteristic of progressive neurodegenerative diseases like multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. However, little is known about the exact mechanisms that trigger this dangerous neuroinflammation, and the unique neurotoxic functions of heterogeneous innate immune populations. In the absence of a high resolution, molecular understanding of innate immune-driven neurodegeneration, drug discovery efforts have been hindered.

In this GEN webinar, Dr. Katerina Akassoglou of the Gladstone Institutes will address the gaps in our understanding and treatment of neuroinflammation. Dr. Akassoglou will also describe how single-cell gene expression paired with small-molecule screening and pathway analysis provides an effective functional transcriptomic and drug discovery pipeline. Additionally, she will tell us how she and her team were able to utilize the Chromium Single Cell Gene Expression system from 10x Genomics to characterize the functional transcriptomic landscape of oxidative stress-inducing innate immune cells at single-cell resolution.

A live Q&A session followed the presentations, offering you a chance to pose questions to our expert panelists.
