Summary:

A simple but useful reference for researchers and students, the GenCode app provides codon references that are accessible offline. A standard codon table is displayed on the home screen of the app, while the other portion of the app consists of a codon picker in which users specify the nucleotide sequence via scrolling menus (similar to a slot machine display). After the user defines a codon, the corresponding amino acid name, three- and one-letter abbreviations, and chemical structure are displayed. Basic chemical properties (polarity and hydrophobicity) for each amino acid are also given. The app doesn’t contain any information beyond these basic features, but then again, it’s really only meant as a basic reference. To that end, it succeeds.
