Rating:
Strong Points: Beautiful science-inspired artwork
Weak Points: Some pieces lack scientific descriptions

Summary:

It is always interesting to observe the intersection of science and art, whether it be in the form of beautiful microscopy images, nature photographs, or—in the case of Greg Dunn—paintings and gilded microetchings of the nervous system. Armed with a Ph.D. in neuroscience and some serious artistic skills, Dunn has created a number of beautiful pieces of neuroscience-inspired artwork that can be viewed on his website. The pieces come in a variety of media, including microetchings, artwork with incorporated gold leaf, Asian-styled scrolls, and art prints. Many of his pieces are accompanied by a description of the underlying science. In particular, Dunn’s latest project, Self Reflected, is a remarkable scientific feat in and of itself. In fact, an entire section of the website is devoted to the description of the science, engineering, and art behind Self Reflected, which is billed as “the most complex artistic rendition of the human brain in the world.”
