Postsynaptic Simulator transforms principles about neuronal activation into a fun game. The app is divided into eight different levels, each of which describes a different objective to the user. Each of these levels covers a different scenario that can occur between the presynaptic and postsynaptic cell, such as spatial summation or coincidence potentiation. Using their knowledge of these phenomena, users have to tap the presynaptic cell to send excitatory potentials with the goal of generating an action potential in the postsynaptic cell. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t include any additional information about the underlying principles governing each level, and the game can be a little tricky. However, Postsynaptic Simulator can be a good supplemental tool for educators who want an additional visual aid in the lessons they use to teach students about neuronal transmission.
