President Trump’s healthcare plan put forth by a House Republican bill (American Health Care Plan) to replace the Affordable Care Act calls for the removal of the requirement for most Americans to have health insurance. Instead, individuals will be offered tax credits to encourage them to purchase insurance on the open market. Preexisting medical conditions will be covered. Tort reform and buying insurance across state lines will not be permitted. Young adults can still be covered under their parents’ healthcare plans up to the age of 26.
Federal funds from Medicaid and other government programs for Planned Parenthood would be cut off for a year. The way the bill is structured also means that older Americans will see their insurance premiums rise significantly.
