Tokuda Hospital and PharmaCell are establishing a joint venture to build and operate a GMP facility in Sofia, Bulgaria. The company will focus on human cell and tissue culturing for the Eastern European market.
The organizations report that the total investment in the Sofia facility will be €5 million, or $6.4 million. Construction is expected to start early next year.
PharmaCell is a CMO focused on human cell and tissue culturing and has a GMP facility in Maastricht, The Netherlands. Tokuda Hospital Sofia is owned by Tokushukai Medical, a health institution with over 280 healthcare facilities in Japan, including 65 hospitals. This deal is representative of Tokushukai Medical’s strategy to expand activities outside Japan.
