Crichton authored books like The Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park.

We at GEN wish to express our condolences to the family of author Michael Crichton who died yesterday from cancer. Crichton wrote a number of best-selling novels such as The Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park.

In the early 1990s during preplanning for the movie version of Jurassic Park, GEN had the privilege of working with one of the film’s art directors. She traveled to our office in New Rochelle, NY, to discuss some of the technical aspects of equipping a research laboratory for the film. Several members of GEN’s editorial staff also accompanied her on visits to local biotechnology companies, so she could get an idea of what life science laboratories looked like.

Crichton and the film’s executives were subsequently gracious in listing GEN among the credits for movie. During phone conversations with Crichton, we found him to be, not surprisingly, extremely intelligent. What really impressed us, though, was his wonderful wittiness and sense of humor. His creativity and superb story-telling abilities will indeed be missed.
