Friedrich-Loeffler Institut (www.fli.bund.de), the Federal Research Institute for Animal Health on Riems Island in Germany, bought an ultrafast Genome Sequencer 20 system from Roche Applied Science (www.roche-applied-science.com). It will use the system for virus identification and research purposes. The product reportedly can be used to analyze complete viral genomes, for example, 16 genomes of influenza viruses, in a single work step. Even minute changes in the genetic material can be detected with outstanding accuracy, notes Manfred Baier, head of Roche Applied Science.
