Grant will fund Lyme disease research.
The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies received a $750,000 grant from the EPA to fund research into the Lyme disease life cycle. Studies will focus on how the interactions between ticks, bacterial pathogens, animal and human hosts, and the landscapes in which they interact affect exposure to Lyme disease.
The experimental field work will study and manipulate three major animal hosts for ticks: white-footed mice, eastern chipmunks, and gray squirrels.
