Vaccine will use patient’s own tumor cells in combination with chemotherapy.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America reports that it plans to make a new cancer vaccine therapy for women with advanced-stage ovarian cancer by this summer. Avax Technologies will develop this treatment, which will use the patient’s own tumor tissues.

This patient-specific vaccine will be combined with chemotherapy delivered directly into the abdominal cavity. It will be offered to patients whose cancer have recurred after chemotherapy.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America hopes to eventually make this form of vaccine available to treat other forms of cancer, including colorectal and lung cancer patients, as well as patients with malignant melanomas.
