In comparison to other biomolecules, and despite their significance in biopharmaceuticals, glycans have been historically problematic to manipulate and study. Advances in technology for glycan analysis has lagged behind and been a hindrance for many researchers.

Furthermore, conventional sample-preparation workflows for released glycan analysis are notoriously laborious, time-consuming, and usually lead to compromises in sensitivity. This limits both the throughput and detail by which the glycosylation of a biopharmaceutical can be profiled.

New reagent chemistries for N-glycan labeling promise to not only modernize the sample-preparation workflow for released N-glycans, but also make mass spectrometry readily accessible by improving glycan monitoring and characterization.

In this GEN webinar, Matthew Lauber, Ph.D., senior applications chemist for Waters, will present a streamlined glycan sample-preparation workflow utilizing the new GlycoWorks™ RapiFluor-MS™ N-Glycan Kit, which allows researchers to rapidly deglycosylate, label, and clean-up samples for LC/FLR analysis in three easy steps within 30 minutes.

Dr. Lauber will describe in detail the labeling reagent RapiFluor-MS, which delivers enhanced ionization capabilities, allowing glycans to be detected using the ACQUITY® QDa® Detector. With the high sensitivity enabled by this new reagent, scientists will be able to increase throughput and have access to mass detection as an orthogonal technique to confirm FLR peaks in glycan monitoring.
