Against the Gradient
While all of your coworkers are passing the time on social media, you can go “against the gradient” and relax by playing this membrane transporter–themed game. Designed by Cogent Education, a company that creates interactive and game-based scientific educational content, the Against the Gradient app has players solve puzzles that entail moving molecules across membranes in order to reach equilibrium. To achieve this task, players are gradually introduced to different molecules and their corresponding transporters, which they may choose to insert or remove from the membrane to direct molecule movement. In the early levels the game isn’t very difficult, though the difficulty ramps up quickly as additional molecules and transporters are introduced. Overall the game is entertaining, the graphics run smoothly, and the tidbits of educational information are a nice bonus.
