Summary:

In today’s world, individuals can order genetic services online and “personalized medicine” is a hot topic. But what exactly is personalized genetics? The people behind the Personal Genetics Education Project hope to help answer that question through a series of outreach efforts that include offering lectures and workshops for the general public, consulting with film and television writers and producers, delivering Congressional briefings, and developing online educational resources. Beyond learning more about each of these initiatives, site visitors can take a crash course on personal genetics (“personal genetics 101”) on the “learn more” page. Educators will also find a number of lessons plans on the website. The lessons cover the aforementioned topics of direct-to-consumer genetic testing and personalized medicine, as well as topics like athletics and genetics, the interplay of genetics and the environment, and the history of eugenics.
