Summary:
Google recently made headlines through its novel integration of satelite imagery with map information (maps.google.com), enabling most of us to see how we look from the satelites above (smile!). On a somewhat smaller scale and with a different purpose, the folks at NASA have put together the Millennium Coral Reefs Project, which offers similar views of the world’s coral reefs. Coral reefs don’t generally have street addresses, so access is a bit different from the Google site. Visitors view images of any of the reefs by clicking on a desired reef on mini-maps of the world. After the image appears, navigational tools allow one to change perspective easily. The pictures are beautiful, but I was unable to do what I really wanted after I saw the images–zoom in.
