Summary:

What is Golgi? Well, in this case we’re not talking about the protein-modifying apparatus found in cells; instead, this Golgi is a novel brain visualization tool released by the laboratory of Dr. Larry Swanson at the University of Southern California. The website for the application includes a nice three-minute introductory video and some basic information about what to expect when you launch the application. (Take it from me: you want to take the time to read this information before proceeding.) The brain-viewing application is then launched within the site. The site visitor is presented with a flattened brain representation, which can be subsequently annotated by user-specified input/output connections and other brain region-specific data. Golgi includes a large amount of data related to the connections, molecules, and cell types of various brain regions (all data collected from rat), although it is not comprehensive. The application is easy to use and the annotations can be saved when finished.
