Strong Points: Bursting with info
Weak Points: Weak organization
With all the health concerns regarding animal foods (avian flu, mad cow disease, scrapie, mercury poisoning in fish), we really need to pay close attention to taking care of our plants. Toward this end, Penn State’s Department of Plant Pathology hosts the Plant Pathology Fact Sheets, a listing of “common diseases of plants frequently grown in greenhouses, interiorscapes, and in outdoor landscapes and nurseries.” Organization of information is a bit higgledy-piggledy. First, links to things like the Plant Management Network and Research Programs are in a panel on the left side of the opening page. On the same page, is a LONG list of links broken down into three categories–General Information, Floral/Foliage Plants, and Woody Ornamental. The amount of info within these links is massive, but I can’t help but think how much better it would be with a bit of attention to hierarchical design.
