ACS ChemClub

For non-chemists, memories of failed titrations and organic chemistry exams can
immediately conjure up residual feelings of anxiety. But it doesn’t have to be that way!
The American Chemical Society ChemClub aims to foster a love of chemistry in high
school students through activities that go beyond the classroom. The website contains practical information about starting a chapter and planning meetings, but also includes an enormous list of activities that link classroom learning with real-world applications. For
example, you can lead your students outside to examine the chemistry behind leaves changing color in the fall or introduce acid/base chemistry and polymers through cooking and baking. The activities are fun to do and easy to implement, and the website provides numerous additional resources for fundraising, applying to small grants for the chapter, and connecting with ACS organizations at local colleges. The ACS ChemClub page is a great resource for educators seeking new ways to make chemistry fun for their students.
