Summary:

Wave physics is relevant for many areas within the physical and biological sciences, with microscopy/imaging being a commonly encountered example. The Touch Waves app is a useful educational resource on wave physics that includes both basic text introductions and mathematical equations to explain concepts related to vibrations, waves on strings, acoustics, geometric optics, and wave optics. The app contains approximately 30 simple animations to better illustrate particular concepts, and in some instances student exercises are also included. To get the most out of the app, users should have a fair amount of familiarity with mathematics. However, for those in need of a quick refresher, the app conveniently includes a “reminder on mathematics” section that reviews equations relevant to vectors. Both first-time students of wave physics and seasoned researchers will likely find this to be a useful reference.
