Do you live in or visit Florida? Do you occasionally find yourself crossing paths with an invasive species such as a Savannah monitor or cottonmouth? If you answered “yes” to these questions, then you should take advantage of the IveGot1 app. This app by the University of Georgia Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health allows users to file reports of invasive species sightings, complete with photo upload, thereby allowing officials to track invasive species occurrences throughout the area. The app contains a list of the most common invasive plants/animals found in Florida, although unfortunately there are no photos to accompany the entries. Therefore, one must rely on one’s own knowledge of a species’ appearance in order to report it as such. (Alternatively, one can always select the “I don’t know what it is” option when filing a report.) Reports can be created without an internet connection and saved until a connection is available to allow submission.
