Summary:

The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago has certainly succeeded in capturing the “wow” factor of chemistry in its goREACT app, a Periodic Table with a twist. In this Periodic Table users can drag and drop individual elements to the “reaction area” and see how they react with one another. During this process the app suggests elements for users to add, though users have the freedom to add whichever elements they’d like. Facts about each element are displayed as the elements are selected, and visuals such as “EXPLOSIVE” fill the screen when a reaction is initiated. The app includes over 300 chemical reactions. Beyond the chemical reactions, the app is also a useful Periodic Table app that offers four different views such as atomic mass and Lewis dot structure.
