Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO):
WHAT: | For reporters attending the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and BioEuropa will host a technology showcase and panel discussion to describe how industrial biotechnology applications are already helping to mitigate global climate change. Industrial biotechnology enables production of biofuels, renewable chemicals, and biobased plastics to meet growing global demand for alternatives to petroleum-based goods. A recent WWF report finds that widespread adoption of industrial biotechnology could help industries reduce carbon emissions by between 1 billion and 2.5 billion tons each year. The showcase and panel discussion will highlight biotechnology companies – including Novozymes, Genencor, NatureWorks, Dow, Solazyme and Soliance – that help make these low-carbon products – including biofuels, automobile tires, and carpets chosen by the COP15 organizers for use at Conference venues. | |
