Bionorica Announces Release of Sinupret® Monograph

News source: Business Wire

Bionorica is pleased to announce the release of a product monograph for Sinupret conducted by the American Botanical Council (ABC). ABC is an independent nonprofit research and education organization that educates consumers, healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, industry, and the media on the safe and effective use of herbs and medicinal plants. Bionorica supported the review of the publicly available clinical studies on the combination of European Elder, Sorrel, Cowslip, European Vervain, and Gentian.

The review (http://www.herbalgram.org) found that the combination of these herbs promotes healthy drainage in the upper respiratory tract, improves airflow in the nose and supports healthy mucous flow in the nose and sinuses.

Recently the Food and Drug Administration has warned parents not to give several over-the-counter cough and cold medications to children under four. Additionally, the agency is evaluating whether these products, which have been tied to over 120 deaths over the years, should be available for children at all.

“Bionorica chose to bring Sinupret for Kids to the United States now because the company believes that parents should have access to safe and effective non-drug remedies for their children,” said Scott Bukow, CEO of Bionorica USA. “Sinupret is not a drug to treat disease, but a natural remedy to support the maintenance of healthy sinus, respiratory, and immune system function.”

Sinupret has been used in Europe for over 30 years, with no harmful side effects ever reported in the worldwide literature. The Sinupret product line is now the #1 most widely recommended, scientifically tested, natural nasal and sinus support formula for children and adults in Germany, where the product was developed. Sinupret for Kids does not contain stimulants, caffeine, ephedra, pseudoephedrine, codeine, steroids, narcotics or gluten.

Just recently, the Associated Press reported that there has been a correlation between the declining economy and the increase in the sales of nutritional supplements and herbal products. The article states that since herbal remedies aren’t as strictly regulated as prescription medicines consumers need to know what scientific evidence exists about a product they are considering. One source cited for this type of information is http://www.pubmed.gov the online service from the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health that contains summaries from published research.

“Unlike many products that claim effectiveness with little or no data behind them, Sinupret has the clinical evidence to back it up, which the monograph supports,” said Narinder Duggal, MD, renowned internist and pharmacologist, and clinical associate professor, school of pharmacy, University of Washington.

Sinupret relies on the combination of herbs studied to provide healthy sinus, respiratory and immune support. No other clinically tested natural remedy is available in the US that supports all three functions.

“The current recommendation not to give several over-the-counter (OTC) cough and cold remedies to children under four is based on the question of their effectiveness in children and the potential dangers associated with these medications,” said pediatrician Dr. Bob Sears. “In my practice, I do not use these OTC drugs. I support healthy sinus, respiratory and immune system function with a non-drug, dietary supplement, Sinupret."

“Bionorica is pleased to have its clinical studies validated by ABC which is an esteemed organization with a peer-review process,” said Bukow. “The same combination of herbs is available in Sinupret tablets for adults which the company plans to bring to the states later this year.”

Sinupret for Kids is now available at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, amazon.com, DrugStore.com, Meijer, Fred Meyer, Giant Eagle, Wegmans, Toys ‘R Us, A&P, Pathmark, CDMA, Drug Fair, Kerr Drug, Kinney Drug, Bartell, Save Mart, Kinray, Leader pharmacies and Valu-Rite.
