PharmaNet Development Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:PDGI), (the "Company"), a leading provider of global drug development services, today announced that it has completed the move of the Quebec City, Canada operations of Anapharm, Inc. In addition to this new facility, Anapharm is expected to open another clinical facility by the end of the month in Toronto, Canada, which will include an additional 150 beds for clinical studies.
"The contemporary, bright workspace provides an excellent environment for employees, easy accessibility for clinical study participants and better clinical process flow which we expect to improve productivity and client responsiveness," commented Johane Boucher-Champagne, president and chief executive officer, Anapharm.
Mark Di Ianni, president, early stage development, PharmaNet Development Group, Inc. added, "The investments in Quebec City and Toronto reflect our confidence in our Canadian operations and provide the room for future expansion as Anapharm continues to grow."
"Anapharm plays a strategic role in the many steps that must be taken so that a new medication can emerge and be used in the context of medical treatment," stated Mr. Philippe Couillard, the Minister of Health and Social Services and Minister responsible for the Capital-Nationale Region.
Mr. Couillard continued, "Anapharm's high level of clinical research and bioanalytical capabilities makes it possible for pharmacological treatments to be designed more efficiently which benefits all of the general population. Through its activities, Anapharm contributes to the vitality of the biopharmaceutical industry in Quebec, which is one of the central lines of the Drug Policy that we launched this past February 1st. The Capital-Nationale Region is proud to count Anapharm as one of the innovative organizations within its territory, an organization that contributes to the economic prosperity and outreach of the region on the global markets."
"Anapharm is a key player in the Quebec pharmaceutical industry and corresponds perfectly to the niche of excellence in which we seek to base our knowledge economy," declared the Minister of Employment and Social Solidarity and Deputy of Louis-Hebert, Mr. Sam Hamad. "In addition to the 550 employees at Anapharm headquarters, and a total of 850 employees across Canada, the new facilities allow the creation of 50 permanent and quality jobs in the Capital-Nationale."
