ZyGEM Bolsters DNA Extraction Kit Distribution in Asia Pacific

Firm inked deals covering China, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.

ZyGEM entered into a number of agreements that strengthen its market presence in the Asia Pacific region. They include distribution agreements for its DNA extraction kits in China and South Korea and alliances in New Zealand and parts of Australia to strengthen offerings in its home market.

The deals give exclusive distribution rights for the full line of DNA extraction kits in China to Shanghai Sangon Biological Engineering Technology & Services and in South Korea to SolGent. In addition, in New Zealand and certain parts of Australia, ZyGEM is now co-distributing custom oligonucleotides from Integrated DNA Technologies, PCR reagents from Quanta Biosciences, sample storage products from Biomatrica, and laboratory microplates from Porvair Sciences.

ZyGEM says that the early success of distribution agreements for its DNA extraction kits in the Americas and Europe allowed the company to expand into new territories. The firm gave VWR exclusive distribution rights in North and South America in November 2008. In March VWR also obtained a nonexclusive European license.

ZyGEM’s technology uses a thermophilic enzyme to extract DNA from samples using a single closed-tube system. It is adaptable for use with various off-the-shelf laboratory automation systems, according to the company. Offerings include prepGEM™ for extraction from animal tissue samples for life science research as well as animal health and agricultural applications. forensicGEM™ kits have been formulated for DNA extraction from crime scenes and other sample sources. livestockGEM™ kits are used for DNA extraction from a range of animal sample types.
