Fulcrum BioEnergy to Spend $120M on Solid-Waste-Fueled Ethanol Plant

Fulcrum BioEnergy plans to build a commercial-scale facility to convert municipal solid waste to ethanol near Reno, Nevada. Construction on the $120 million project is scheduled to begin later this year. The plant will be among the first of its kind, according to the company.

The New Sierra BioFuels facility is expected to begin operations in early 2010 and produce approximately 10.5 million gallons of ethanol per year using nearly 90,000 tons per year of municipal solid waste that would otherwise have been disposed of in landfills.
