Biomodels for Your Viewing Pleasure: BioModels Database

As featured in GEN's Best of the Web column.

Computational models are incredibly valuable tools to biologists. Though most prominent in the field of systems biology, mathematical models can provide insight to biological researchers from all fields. The BioModels Database at the EMBL-EBI contains a collection of annotated, published models for your viewing pleasure. There are currently 409 curated models and 420 non-curated models. Visitors can enter keywords to search the database, or they can browse the contents of the database. There is also the ability to submit a model to the database. The homepage features a newsfeed that is kept up-to-date (as all newsfeeds should be), as well as a featured model of the month. (As I write this, the model in the spotlight is “a deterministic modeling of the dynamic biotransformation and transport processes of” a particular drug designed to control cholesterol.) Yep, you’ll never know what treasures you’ll find on this site…
