Thermo Fisher Scientific Offers siRNA Reagent Libraries via Labcyte Echo® Qualified Plates

Thermo Fisher Scientific is offering customers the option of receiving its small-interfering RNA (siRNA) reagent libraries in Labcyte Echo® qualified assay-ready plates.

The companies said the Echo qualified format enables customers to use the Echo liquid handler, which uses acoustic energy to move fluids without physical contact with the sample. Sound waves eject precisely-sized droplets from the source liquid into a microplate, microscope slide or other surfaces suspended above the source.

The Echo lets users transfer Thermo Fisher Scientific RNAi reagents during experiments; lower transfer volumes; and eliminate manual handling via pipette tips, pin tools or nozzles. According to the companies, those capabilities result in decreased risk of contamination, lower costs, and greater efficiency.

In a statement, the companies disclosed two customers for their technologies: At London’s Institute of Cancer Research, the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre, Cancer Therapeutics Unit, receives its siRNA libraries in Echo qualified plates. And at the Southern Research Institute, researchers have developed strategies for siRNA high throughput screening by using Echo technology to transfer siRNAs to assay plates.
