If you, like me, have spent endless hours researching job listings on job boards like Monster or on career pages at specific company websites and sent resumes with brilliant cover letters to capture the attention of recruiters only to get no response then you must be looking for a better way.

A good way to get in front of the companies hiring on the local and national front is to attend the Career Fair at DDT. The fair was held on Wednesday, August 6th in the Plaza Ballroom at the Seaport Hotel, adjacent to the World Trade Center. The career fair was well attended, with representatives from 25 companies who collected resumes from pre-screened job seekers for multiple openings in their respective organizations.

Representatives from research centers at the fair included, the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard as well as Merck Research Labs.

The Biotech companies that sent representatives included Archemix, Alkermes, Alnylam, Biogen Idec, Genzyme, Genentech, Millipore and Lonza Biologics.

Quintiles Transnational, a Contract Research Organization (CRO) sent representatives to the fair to help increase its head count.

Several Pharmaceutical companies were in attendance at the fair including Adnexus Therapeutics (BMS), Altus Pharmaceuticals, EMD Serano, Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Novartis Vaccines & Diagnostics, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Shire Human Genetic Therapies.

Several consulting firms were also in attendance including, Cambridge Consultants, Integrated Project Management Company, Inc. and Parexel International.

For those interested in federal career opportunities in drug evaluation and research, representatives from the Nakamoto Group were present to take your name and resume. Other staffing firms in attendance included Joule Scientific Staffing Solutions, Kforce Scientific Staffing and Randstad Work Solutions who were present to collect names for companies in the Northwest and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Only two of the companies participating in the career fair also had booths on the DDT trade floor, Lonza Biologics (#409) and Millipore Corporation (#829). Three other companies that didn’t host a booth but contributed to the scientific portion of the DDT trade show included BMS, Merck and Millennium.

If you were unable to attend the career fair or, like me, you left home without a stack of resumes, you can still post your resume on the newly developed career center available at Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News (genengnews.4jobs.com) to get access to these companies and other life science companies that are hiring.

Happy hunting!
