Putting Science First…

New England Biolabs (NEB) is proud to be recognized as a world leader in the discovery, production, and supply of reagents for the life sciences. For over 37 years, we have been dedicated to the advancement of science and stewardship of the environment, and are committed to meeting the needs of the scientific community by providing exceptional product quality and technical support.

In many ways, NEB is similar to a research institute, in that our scientists are focused on cutting-edge research. This goes hand in hand with our commitment to addressing the needs of our customers, whose goals are often parallel to ours. As such, NEB is at the forefront of providing the solutions and tools necessary to accelerate scientific research and drive new discoveries.

About the Company

NEB’s state-of-the-art headquarters, located in Ipswich, MA, is ISO and LEED certified. These facilities include a modern fermentation center and independent laboratories for production, quality control, product development, and basic research. With a depth of experience in recombinant technologies, many of our products are manufactured at a large scale and to a series of stringent specifications, resulting in a higher quality product with proven lot-to-lot consistency.

Our experienced team of over 150 research and production scientists is readily available to our customers through our technical support program. The same scientists who develop, manufacture, purify, and quality control our products, also answer technical questions from customers, allowing us to provide efficient and effective support.

Advancement of scientific research is at the core of NEB’s corporate philosophy. NEB researchers have published over 680 peer-reviewed articles to date, in areas as diverse as epigenetics, glycobiology, RNA analysis, protein expression, cell?ular analysis, restriction enzymes, and polymerases.

Over 30 laboratories participate in research projects, including groups that focus on subjects outside of our commercial interests. NEB’s Parasitology Research Division, which focuses on the elucidation and treatment of significant worldwide health issues caused by parasites in humans, is one example of this.

NEB is also committed to promoting and practicing sound ecological practices and environmental sustainability. We are continually looking for new ways to improve our business processes in order to minimize the impact that we have on the environment.

Markets Served

NEB serves life science researchers in industry, government, and academia. Across these different market segments, NEB’s reagents are used in a variety of applications, including DNA cloning, PCR, epigenetics, RNA analysis, protein expression, purification and analysis, sample preparation for next-generation sequencing, and cellular analysis. The majority of these reagents can also be customized or made available in bulk quantities with support from our NEBsolutions team. This extends the utility of these reagents into more applied research markets, such as molecular diagnostics.

NEB’s reagents are available worldwide through our network of exclusive distributors, agents, and subsidiaries: the latter being located in Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, and the U.K. Additionally, many of our customers experience convenient on-site access to our products through our expansive Freezer Program network.

Capabilities

Among the first companies to commercialize enzymes for the manipulation and study of DNA, NEB offers one of the largest ranges of enzymes for molecular biology research. This includes the largest number of restriction enzyme specificities, an area where we continue to make advances today. For example, recent work has resulted in the launch of our High-Fidelity (HF) restriction enzymes, which bring a new level of performance to restriction enzyme digests.

While restriction enzymes and cloning reagents remain central to our product offering, our portfolio extends into many other areas. We have recently introduced OneTaq™ Hot Start DNA Polymerase into our growing line of PCR reagents. This robust polymerase is ideal for a variety of templates, including GC-rich amplicons.

For epigenetics researchers, NEB offers a line of EpiMark™ validated reagents and kits that simplify DNA and histone modification studies, expanding the potential for understanding epigenetic changes and biomarker discovery. We also offer the NEBNext® series of reagents, validated for sample preparation of DNA or RNA for next-generation sequencing. Outside of tools for nucleic acid studies, NEB’s portfolio includes a variety of both basic and unique products for protein purification and expression, and cell biology.

The NEB product portfolio continues to grow and diversify as the needs of life science researchers evolve. Despite this ever-changing environment, NEB strives to maintain its corporate philosophies, the way it supports its customers, and company-wide vision of always putting “science first”.
