Weak Points: Come-on headings

Summary:
Here’s a site I include with a caution—read carefully through the site’s descriptions before signing up for anything. At first glance, I-KODE looks like an interesting idea. With a flashing headline that says FREE SERVICE and subheadlines that say Take Control of Your Scientific Mail and Clean Up Your Inbox, I-KODE would seem to be a tool for stopping junk mail and/or spam. While there does appear to be some ability to do this (at least for the SCIENTIFIC advertisers the site works with), I-KODE’s primary focus appears not to be as strongly aimed at this as much as ensuring that advertisers you want to hear from get their material to you. Yes, there are a few of these, I suppose, but I’m sure I speak for the vast majority of readers of this column when I say I’d rather spend an hour registering for a site that cut me off from ALL advertising spam than spend a minute registering for a site that points a few selected advertisers to me. Some may disagree with this opinion and to them I recommend I-KODE.
