McHughen claims that,"...most scientists, particularly those in academia, are politically naive and unaware of the power of the wealth amassed."

That claim is not even wrong.

Academic scientists are very savvy politically. They withhold grades, degrees, and occupational recommendations from students who do not accept the received wisdom of political elites (e.g., belief in man-made global warming).

Until such abuse by people in academic authority toward subordinates is remedied, the public will unfortunately suspect proclamations from all scientists.

"It would be most helpful to the rest of us trying to determine what is true and what isn't, if all scientists would fully disclose their pre-conceived notions and underlying assumptions prior to promoting their viewpoints."

Why do you ask more of research scientists than you ask of the pseudoscientists who just happen to echo your own beliefs????? Also if you read the scientific literature you would know the underlying assumptions because they are spelled out in the hypothesis being tested.

This article portrays scientists as being overly naive and without political agenda. While in the ideal world this may be true, in reality I believe that most scientists are more savvy than that. Additionally, they facilitate the "thieves" by working with them to achieve media fame. Frankly, I believe that the American people have become so complacent that they believe anything the media puts out there. Because the education system in the US is so broken and because Americans are no longer critical thinkers, they have opened up the "mediafication" of science and have fallen for it hook, line and sinker. I believe that it is the fault of the scientists as well as the gullibility of the American population that this phenomenon has occurred. When people start once again taking personal responsibility for themselves, the media will not be able to take advantage of them.

Scientists are after all human beings and as such they bring prejudices and biases to the analysis of their work. This is true whether they call themselves atheists, agnostics or theists. It would be most helpful to the rest of us trying to determine what is true and what isn't, if all scientists would fully disclose their pre-conceived notions and underlying assumptions prior to promoting their viewpoints.
