  • This GEN Market & Tech Analysis report is the second of two back-to-back reports designed to frame some of the market trends operative in the personalized medicine field.

    Highlights of this report:

    • Even though the concept of personalized medicine is relatively straightforward, its implementation in clinical practice has been elusive due to a number of factors.
    • In this report, we frame some of the qualitative and quantitative trends which characterize the personalized medicine space as it exists today.
    • There is no doubt that this field is expanding, however, the restraints to the realization of the full potential of personalized medicine relate to heterogeneity of patient samples and the large numbers of LDTs that exist and complicate—and perhaps cloud—the marketplace.
    • We argue in this report that greater emphasis on biological fluids as circulating biomarkers will be a driver for personalized medicine due to the ability of biofluids to “capture” and provide a broad picture of the biomarker milieu in vivo, as compared to tissue samples—the current standard—which represent sometimes a “spatial bias”.
