Yesterday, people in the U.K. voted to withdraw their country from membership in the European Union. There has been a good deal of concern that Brexit, as the withdrawal is known, will seriously harm the British biotech industry and the country’s scientific enterprise in general. Some believe that the U.K. bioindustry and life science research community will indeed suffer in the short term but that the country’s strong university system and its biotech industry’s solid commercial capabilities will not be affected in the long term.
