Translational Medicine Center for Infectious Diseases Set Up in Shanghai

  • The Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center and the Fudan University Key Laboratory for Medical Molecular Virology jointly established a new Translational Medicine Center for Infectious Diseases in Shanghai.

    According to Professor Yumei Wen, the goal of this center is to develop integrated basic and clinical and research platforms for infectious diseases. The scientists expect to carry out  their mission by developing a synergy between clinical resources and research studies on new and rapid diagnostic methods and novel therapeutic approaches. Prof. Wen is the chair of scientific and academic committee of Fudan University and member of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
