The Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg to Leverage Life Technologies’ Sequencing System

  • The Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg (IBBL) has decided to use Life Technologies’ Applied Biosystems SOLiD™ System for next-generation sequencing of a range of samples. The goal is to elucidate the genetic basis of various diseases.

    The IBBL is an independent, nonprofit biobanking and biotechnology foundation designed to support investigators worldwide. With an initial focus on cancer, the IBBL collects, stores, analyzes, and distributes a variety of biospecimen samples.

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
