Transaction is part of its efforts to step up presence in Latin America.

Sigma-Aldrich purchased Sigal, its primary distributor in Chile, and established Sigma-Aldrich Quimica. This will provide a foundation for future growth in the country.

“Building on our strong customer base in Chile and throughout Latin America is a long-term strategy for Sigma-Aldrich,” explains Eric Green, vp of international sales and operations. “We experienced 20% sales growth in Latin America in 2008 alone.”

Sigma-Aldrich’s strategic plan also includes accelerating growth in Canada and Asia Pacific. The firm’s  goal is that 25% of corporate sales by 2010 come from these regions along with Latin America. In October 2008 Sigma-Aldrich established a representative office in Vietnam to serve the country’s research and manufacturing sectors.
